Lovell Sisters

Calhoun, Georgia

Country/Bluegrass

The 3 Lovell Sisters from Georgia play country and bluegrassSisters Jessica, Megan, and Rebecca Lovell got an early start in the music world. They each started taking lessons in classical violin and piano at age 5 and as youth sung as a trio for church and in the church choir. All three were members of string quartets and youth symphonies and, at fifteen, Jessica was co-principal of the 2nd violin section in the SAU Symphony Orchestra. After listening to Jerry Douglas’ album Slide Rule and after friends introduced them to the jamming and traditional music of the Signal Mountain Opry in Chattanooga and the Snow Hill Bluegrass Jamboree, they became hooked on bluegrass.

In May 2005, Rebecca took 3rd in the 10th Annual Merlefest Mandolin Competition, becoming the first female to place in the history of this international contest.  Four months later, Rebecca flew to Winfield, Kansas and took 2nd in the Walnut Valley National Mandolin Championship. Then, in February 2005, the trio won NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor” National Talent Competition.

At the 2006 Great Lakes Folk Festival, Jessica (lead vocals, fiddle), Megan (vocals, resophonic guitar) and Rebecca (lead vocals, mandolin) will be joined by Andy Nall (upright acoustic bass) and Brian Frazier (guitar, banjo, and lead vocals).
