Music & Dance Roots Vibration Detroit, Michigan Reggae Members of Roots Vibration, hailing from the exotic islands of the Caribbean and the funky streets of Detroit, bring decades of experience and authenticity to the reggae scene. Winfred Julien (guitar, lead vocals), from Dominica, West Indies, has been a driving force in the regional Caribbean scene for two decades. The founder and brainchild of Detroit's Universal Xpression, he produced and performed on eight original CDs and has worked with dozens of international, national, and local artists, including Calypso Rose and opened for superstars like Burning Spear, Shaggy, Shabba Ranks, and Sanchez. Patrick Howell (keyboards, vocals) was born in the U.S. and raised on the island of Nevis. He has been performing and recording Caribbean music for 10 years with local, regional and international bands, including Hot Shots, BQE, and Universal Xpression. At the 2005 Great Lakes Folk Festival they are joined by mulit-talendted Lateef Karam Kareem (drums, background vocals) and Ufuoma D. Wallace (bass guitar, background vocals). Nigel John (steel drums), who was born and raised in Grenada, W.I., is the son of a pan maker and claims that he “was born playing pan.” Nigel has won many accolades for his work as both a performer and an educator on the steel drums. Whenever Roots Vibration performs, it's Carnival time.
